Measuring for Up and Over Wooden Doors
If you are measuring for a door that is going to be placed in an existing frame, you need to measure the width and height of the frame, and supply those details. It’s worth noting that if the manufacturer you are buying from has standard ordering sizes and your frame is close, but doesn’t quite fit them, it can save you time and money to simply replace the frame.
If you’re installing a door inside a structural opening you need to measure the width and height of the opening in several places and use the smallest measurement. You should also measure the smallest reveal on the left and right sides of the structural opening. You’ll also need the smallest headroom dimension from the top of the opening to the lowest point on the ceiling.
If you’re installing a door that sits in-between the structural opening, you’ll just need the width and height of the opening measurements.
Measuring for Sectional Wooden Doors
For sectional wooden doors it is a little different. When measuring for a door inside a structural opening you should take the width of the opening and add 90mm on each side. The ordering height should be the height from the floor to the lintel plus an additional amount that differs by each manufacturer.
If you’re measuring for a door in-between a structural opening then you need to measure the height and the width, but you will also need to provide the depth on the garage. Remember to always measure in several different places and use the smallest measurement.
